The sick kid

March 30, 2012

So we are finally in gorgeous Koh Samui. But if only we can enjoy the beauty and serenity here…

As we were boarding the flight from Perth, Lily decided to use that moment (where everyone’s eyes were upon us anyway) to vomit food all over herself…and all down me too.

Two spare outfits later, she was up every or so hour, crying very weakly but nonetheless in discomfort. I thought my arms were going to fall off from cradling her for 5 hours non-stop during our cramped flight.

I thought the pool and the beach would cheer her up when we finally arrived at the resort. But she couldn’t even muster a smile and started screaming – obviously telling us she wasn’t very happy!

Two nights ago, was the worst night we’ve ever had since she was born. She usually stops crying as soon she  in my arms. But even the good ‘ol bouncing on the bed (she used to be a fan of the fitball) did absolutely nothing. Man I felt so sorry for Lily and our poor neighbours who probably didn’t like being woken up by continuous screaming at 12am and 2am!

Lily most likely picked up a virus when we left Perth. She had a fever and was off her food (which is very unusual!).  But now she seems to be better although she has a nasty heat rash on her face.

I used to be one of those people who would wonder why people brought their little children on holiday if they were just going to cry all the time. But really we had no idea until we boarded the plane. We’ve hardly left our resort. And we’ve felt like utter crap and seriously sleep deprived since getting here. Plus we feel like the worst parents.

Unfortunately all our lovely memories of Koh Samui will not be relived this week. But in sickness and health we are here for our friends (who are getting married) and our family (catching up with DH’s parents from the UK) so this trip isn’t a total loss even though it’s been tough. Real tough!

Thank god there are moments. Magical even though they are small. The occasional giggle when Lily sees the ocean and a big smile when she sees a sky lantern floating up to the sky.

Plus it’s always great to see her enjoying herself with her grandparents.

Sorry for the lack of blogging – it’s been a hectic week! The wedding is today and I’m sure we’ll have a good time. Hopefully I’ll have the chance to take some more photos.

Hope everyone is having a good week!

It sounds quite scary Sass. I hope her illness disappears as quickly as it arrived and you get some relaxing time in what is a very special place for you guys.

    Get Well Soon Lily

You poor things! Try not to feel guilty about the neighbours, you’ve got enough on your plate making sure Lily is ok.

Sending lots of get well vibes her way and I hope it goes away as quickly as it appeared.

Oooh I feel what you’re going through… went to Krabi and Chiang Mai with my 15 month old boy a couple of years back… the morning that we left he started teething his eye-teeth. Worst teeth ever. He was sick with high fever by that night, got lung congestion after a couple of days – what began with major drool and a lumpy gum ended up being a nightmare holiday! Just do what you need to do and don’t worry about neighbours and all. Glad you’re enjoying what you can!

Thanks guys, she got a lot better after this post!

Popsi – I’ve always wanted to go to Krabi and Chiang Mai…maybe next time. It’s so hard when they become so sick on holiday but I hope you enjoyed some of it!
