Sleep baby sleep!

May 13, 2011

I’m back folks…and what a lovely trip it was to Brisbane and Melbourne. Brisbane treated us with great company and warm weather. And as always, Melbourne was a gastronomical and creative treat.

So the question you may be asking…”How was Lily?”

Lily sleeping (at last!) in Fitzroy

Well frankly the flight over was an absolute nightmare. It was looking good in the beginning. There were four other babies on our flight . 5 minutes before we were due to board she feel asleep. After crying her lungs out at the airport, I assumed she wouldn’t have anything left for the plane. The take off was also pretty cruisey as she woke up so I fed her .

After half an hour, she refused to sleep and that is when the screaming began and didn’t stop until 2 hours later. The poor thing just couldn’t block out all the new faces and lights so DH and I took turns rocking her in the back where her crying was muffled by the engine noise.

I couldn’t help checking out the other babies and they had all fallen asleep with dummies in their mouths. I so wished at that point that I had persisted with introducing a dummy to Lily (she refused even after 2 weeks of me shoving it in her mouth).

Other than that awful flight over, she was pretty good. She slept really well in her travel cot and eventually got used to the idea of sleeping in her pram (I would move the stroller to lying position with the sun shade down so she could block out most of the stimulation and fall asleep). She even feel asleep at the wedding so I was able to stay until 12 am!

She loved meeting all our friends and was pretty excited on most days to the extent that even the waiters at MoVida and Red Spice Road were claiming she was the happiest baby they have ever seen.

I’m sure they would have swiftly changed their mind if they knew how ‘unhappy’ she gets though!

More posts about the trip to come…

So glad you had a good time. I LOVE red spice road, their pork is to die for!! Sienna has gone from a sleep anywhere baby to needing a quiet, no stimulation area. I’m very disappointed as it is going to curve my social outings a bit 😦 Bet it was fantastic that Lily slept so well in her travel cot.xx

The similarities continue: we’re heading to a wedding in Brisbane next month too. At least Sydney to Brisbane is short and sweet! That Perth to Brisbane flight can be hell for an adult let alone a poor little baby girl. I’m glad Lily was happy while you were there and content to let you guys have a few meals out in peace.

Sometimes how things are done is as imortpant as whats done. And the way this decision was done really stinks imo.I almost threw a shoe at that jerk Conroy on the ABC last night, while he was yapping on about Open and transparent processes’, and why Telstra should adopt them.I don’t have much time for Telstra but maybe they were just copying him.Conroy is single-handedly making a mockery of all the ALPs mucho stated ( Faulkner and Gillard for example) open-and transparent’ pretensions. He’s also demonstrating once again for the record that in many ways the ALP right is actually shockingly even worse than the conservatives.

What an awesome photo with pram and graffiti wall! Did you take that?

Oh dear. Sorry to hear the flight didn’t go so well.

Looking forward to hearing about rest of the holiday!

Anna – I so know what you mean about our babies now needing a quiet place to sleep. Hopefully it will get easier again when they reduce the amount of naps they need. I didn’t get to try the pork at Red Spice Road so must try it next time…

Superluminous – You should have no problems with our trip over since the flight is so short. Such a disadvantage for Perth since we are so faraway from EVERYTHING.

DD – DH actually took the photo as I was too busy singing “Rock a Bye Lily” 😛

    Bummer about the flight.
    Fingers crossed for next time.
LOVING that photo of the graffiti art and the pram! It’s cool!
